Waverley residents and athletes are outraged that the plans to resurface the Waverley netball courts have been delayed until October.
Within the past two years, Waverley Council have completed works on numerous projects the community such as the Multi-purpose courts and were set to resurface the courts to fit the Australian Netball Association Standard. Originally planned to begin on March 18th, the last time the courts were renovated was nearly thirty years ago.
Senior Project Officer Robert Sabato said that
“We will have more netball groups that would like to use them and that means that they’ll be more of a higher standard”.
This means that the condition of the netball courts are going to be of a higher spec so they’re more compliant with today’s sporting standards.
Casey Reynolds, a resident that has lived in the area for nearly twenty years said that the condition of the courts looked fine.
“No, I don’t think work needs to be done to it, courts looked completely fine.”
The delays of the work being done will now impact the netball season due to their inconsistency which have outraged the athletes that use the grounds as well as halt other projects in plan for the council.
Moreover, the recent delays of the resurfacing have only contributed to the perceived unreliability of the council as noted by Reynolds who wasn’t informed of the delays.
“No, I wasn’t informed of the delay” she said I don’t mind the delay. “Now I don’t have to worry about trucks in the street now and parking being taken up by the tradespeople”.
But Sabato says that council will make every effort to reduce noise.
“They’ll be a little bit of noise when they take out the concrete around the old netball posts but it’ll be done during business hours so most people will hopefully be at work”.
The new specified date for the resurfacing of the netball courts hasn’t been released to the residents or athletes of the Waverley community, but Sabato ensures that it is set to commence sometime in October.
